Village celebrate ODF Certification

Zvimba- Kadyamatimba village in
Ward 1, Zvimba celebrated the Open
Defecation Free Zone
(ODF) recently.

Speaking at the ceremony,
the District Water and
Sanitation Subcommittee (DWSSC) Chairman,
Mr. Caleb Mafoshola
commended the local authority and Charity Water for a
well-executed project in
Zvimba.

“This Government program in partnership
with our Council and Charity Water through
their partners aimed at giving our communities clean
safe water and empowers our communities and
schools to have basic and
decent sanitation should be commended and appreciated ” said
Mr. Mafoshola.

Mafoshola also said
the program has imparted
a great deal of knowledge
to the community through the training of
pump minders, to take
good care of water points,
as well as organized workshops for Sanitation Action
Groups.

He was optimistic that the program will increase
the number of piped
water schemes from the
current two in the village.

Speaking at the same ceremony, Zvimba Rural District Council
Chairperson who was the
guest of honor Councilor Piwai
Chipunza was grateful
that Charity Water has
extended its
operations in Zvimba.

“These celebrations mark the
beginning of
an era that will usher us as a
district into a healthy diarrhea-disease-free zone,
that will see us save a
a lot of money and reducing
child mortality as specified in the National Development Strategy 1 as we are
thriving to reach an upper
middle-income society by
2030,” she said

She called
upon various stakeholders to
increase the number of
villages that are participating in the ODF program,
to enable the district to
move up the ladder toward the elimination of open defecation challenges in the community.

Counciĺor Chipunza commended
all Government Officials
working well with the local authority
and the donor community for their team
spirit.

A local Headman
Mr. Misheck Kadyamatimba who embraced the
the program left people in
stitches while giving his
vote of thanks.
“I have fully embraced the program for my people’s health sake”
said the village head, to
the people’s applause.

There were ODF 59
certificates were given to local
households of Kadyamatimba village who had
constructed standard
toilets in the village.
