Local NGO Promotes Tree Planting In Schools

Local non-governmental organization, Water4Life Foundation has embarked on a program that aims at environmental conservation through planting trees.

Running under the theme “Cut one Plant many” the Foundation seeks to work with schools hence they started with Norton based Marchwood Senior School.

Speaking at the event, Foundation chairman Timothy Fred said Water4Life is aiming at catching young children son that they have an impact on the lives of many.

“We want to make sure everyone at a young age get an opportunity to have an impact in the lives of many. We want to have a wide out reach. If we manage to catch them young, this will have an impact on the future of this nation. They will have tangible knowledge on how to conserve our environment. This is certainly not the last time to host such an event but we are going to spearhead more of these events.” said Fred

Fred said schools can make a wide foot print on and fighting against global warming through learning about ecosystem and environment.

“Schools will have tangible evidence on how they are fighting against global warming and deforestation.” he said.

Speaking at the event, Forestry Commission official Esther Mugumeni gave a detailed speech on the tree of the year for 2022, the Mukuti tree and its benefits.

The event was a curtain raiser for the National Tree Planting day which is set to be commemorated at Dema today with President Emmerson Mnangagwa leading the proceedings.
